Just wondering if there are people here who are wanting to icon some comics themselves, but don't quite know where to start? So figured I'd post an intro to comic book iconning, plus some tips & tricks.

I'm on photoshop, and that's all I've ever know, so sorry if you're on a different software. Hopefully it translates somewhat. (and if you don't have any software, there are free options out there, such as photopea, a free browser program)

If I started up a community for biweekly comic book icontests, how many of you would be (somewhat) regular participants?

The Icon Request Fest is off to a strong start, with many requests and fills already, but we'd love for more of you to drop in. scans_daily has made it very easy to find panels of your favorite characters, and if not surely google will come to your aid. If you're thinking of filling requests but might not know exactly how to go about it, I've posted two different tutorials on my process, here and here.

Requests or fills, either way, we'd love to see you!

Since we've amassed a bit of members now, I thought it would be a good time to try and boost activity a bit. Would any (or all *g*) of you be interested in doing a request fest?

The way it would work is we'd have a post where people could make requests in the comments, preferably linking to scans/covers, and then others can make them icons and everyone can share in their love of comics and their favorite characters :)



If some of you would like to get into icon-making but don't quite know where to start, I could make a small resource post with some tutorial links? I only have experience with photoshop myself, but I'm sure most of the techniques would translate fairly well to other programs.

I went on a bit of an invite spree this weekend - through interest searches and a bit of community pillaging. comicbook_icons has now landed at over one hundred watchers :D

If there's anything you're wondering about, anything at all - or suggestions you'd like to make, etc - I'd love to hear from you.

You simply love so and so character/storyline, and can't find icons anywhere? This would be the place to make a request. Maybe some kindly stranger will take you up on it!
(including some panels would be a bonus, of course! scans_daily, Comic Book Resources, Cover browser, Comixology, or just plain old google would be a good place to start.)
